Since 2006, the ASKO Europa-Stiftung, together with the European Academy of Otzenhausen and the Stiftung Forum für Verantwortung, has been involved in the manifold topics of sustainability and sustainable development with the educational initiative "Encouraging Sustainability". The aim of this educational project, which is now internationally oriented, is to mobilise people through a scientifically supported, broad-based public discourse on responsible action in dealing with the Earth system.
The concept of the initiative originally consisted of three parts:
- 13 books on sustainability (Book Series on the Future of the Earth).
- Development of comprehensive educational materials from the contents of the book series
- Offering a comprehensive seminar and educational program on the topic of sustainable development
In the meantime, numerous other projects as well as cooperations with renowned partners have developed. Encouraging Sustainability is active throughout Germany and, in some cases, in other European countries. From 2007-2014, the initiative was awarded four times as an official project of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
