The Saarbrücken Panel on Europe started in 2021 with the topic "Transatlantic security relations - institutional and political challenges". About 100 participants from all over the world and different time zones connected online on February 23 and followed the lecture of Dr. Christian von Buttlar LL.M. (NATO Headquarters, Brussels), who spoke as an alumnus of the Europa-Institut about the challenges of transatlantic security relations and reported about his daily work.
In cooperation with two strong partners, the Saarland Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Europa-Institut of Saarland University, the foundation initiated the event series "Saarbrücken Panel on Europe" in 2019. Renowned speakers debate current European issues of immediate relevance for Saarland and the Greater Region at panel discussions, which are the central component of several theme nights organized throughout the year and at a central venue.
In 2019, three panels with selected experts and numerous representatives from business, science and society took place in the Saalbau of the Saarland Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The main topics were Brexit, the European elections and trade relations between the USA and Europe.
In 2020, due to Corona, an online panel was held under the headline "Energy competition between Europe and the USA". Dr. Josef Braml, former head of the Americas Program at the German Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, and Werner Ott, former vice president of the German-American Chamber of Commerce in Chicago, discussed existing social, political and geo-economic developments on both sides of the Atlantic with their impact on the European economy and the energy sector in particular.
