Sustainability and Municipalities

"How can I make my municipality more climate-friendly with a sustainable strategy?" This is how Michael Scholl, managing director of the Union Foundation, formulates the guiding idea for the Sustainability and Municipalities event series.

"Promoting practical and, as far as possible, specific, inter-municipal exchange between the individual players in Saarland is the declared aim of our joint series of events", emphasizes Meike Kartes, Referee for Sustainability at the ASKO Europa-Stiftung.

The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: "Make cities and settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable" clearly highlights the role of municipalities in achieving globally sustainable goals. In Saarland, these goals have been included in the update of the Saarland Sustainability Strategy.

With the event concept "Sustainability and Municipalities - Make Your Municipality More Sustainable", the ASKO Europa-Stiftung, the Union Stiftung and the IZES GmbH offer municipal decision-makers in Saarland, in line with the guiding principle "Think globally, act locally", the opportunity to learn about important options for action to effectively reduce the consequences of climate change and to implement them at the municipal level.

After three online modules in 2021, the series was continued with a hybrid event on March 10, 2022, on the topic of sustainable mobility concepts in the Saarland and the region: "2030 - Sustainable municipal and integrated mobility concept for the Saarland and the region - (co)design transport turnaround!"
